sorry this is a bit long.....
i did my shopping in asda earlier on today came to £34.84 . I asked for a £20 itunes voucher for my son .
paid for my shopping....£54.84 altogether. then the receipt came and it said activation failed! so the cashier was confused called for someone to help her out . Manager comes over and tells me that i had not paid for the voucher as it was not activated , so i quickly sent my husband to the bank outside to check and yep they took the whole £54.84, explained this and was told to go and get a refund from customer services.
Went to customer services and her attitude was appaling!....i asked how long it would take to go back into my bank account and all she said was 'it takes how long it takes' i moaned about it and instead gave me a gift voucher for the £20
went home.....a few hours later i get a phonecall from asda telling me the whole transaction had not gone through and that i had not actually paid for my shopping and i was to go back to the store and pay!
Money is not in my account...so where is it??
i asked if the transaction didnt complete then how did i get a receipt ??
the lady on the phone was not at all helpful and just kept asking me to come pay the £54.84 , i then told her ...if the money goes back into my account then i will happily bring it to you but until then i will not .
i got a snotty remark about how its technically shoplifting
well i lost my temper and told her if she thinks i have shoplifted then phone the police.....line went dead ..still waiting on the police coming

Re where the money has gone, chances are it's been put on hold, but because the transaction failed, it's not showing in your account at the moment, but will be back in a couple of days (IIRC the hold lowers the available balance on the account until it times out).
I suspect in a day or so you'll either see the transaction has gone through properly, or that you've got the full sum back as part of your available balance.
It sounds like the asda staff were not very well trained at all, as AFAIK when you buy stuff in a single transaction either the whole transaction should go through, or none of it should.0 -
How did they know your phone number?0

As above, leave it a few days.
It'll either drop back into your account, or appear on your statement.0 -

This kind of thing has happened to me several times and it's very annoying; especially if you are often down to double figures in the bank (as we were in the first year after our bankruptcy.) We went to Sainsburys for some petrol a year ago, and we had £40 worth, and only £120 in the bank to last 10 days. So the petrol left us £80 to last 10 days for food and our contents insurance and tv licence, so money was tight.
So I put my pin number in, and the cashier said 'that didn't go through,' and I had to put it in again! Then I found my bank balance was £40! There was two £40 amounts 'pending' in the bank. I queried it with Sainsburys AND my bank, and both said that they couldn't do anything about it and that the £40 was in cyberspace for about 5 working days and then it would drop back into our account. So we had £40 to live on for about 7 days, and £30 of that was towards the insurances! So we had to live on what food we had in the pantry for the week until the other £40 went back in!
Check with your bank to make absolutely sure the £57 has not come out,,, but it may be that the payment is in cyberspace for the week. So they have not been paid, and you have not got the money either. Contact Asda and tell them you need to check for sure that you have not paid as it is not possible to pay it twice!0 -

In case you missed it, this is vital. Don't do anything at all yet.0 -
There are enough posts on this exact subject that everyone should learn to only shop with cash where possible.
It's akin to the numerous other posts that pop up day in day out about scams/fake phone calls etc. Search the forum before posting!! Rant over
