Advice on an EBay item advertised in Freeads too

I am pretty certain that an unusual item listed on EBay that I have placed a bid on is also being advertised by the seller in the new local FreeAds paper and also elsewhere online.

Is this allowed? I can't find anything to say that it isn't. Rationally I suppose a seller can advertise their goods wherever they like. But what would happen to my bid (and anyone elses) if they were to sell to another buyer outside of EBay before the EBay listing ended.

Any advice much appreciated, thank you.

I don't think you're supposed to advertise elsewhere but people do.

Up to a certain time (might be 12hours prior to the end) the seller can cancel bids or end the auction. After that the seller might find themselves with a bit of a problem.
