Buyer bought item but now will not pay

New to ebay...another problem for advice please

Sold an item on behalf of someone which was collection only and they were paying by cash.

Buyer came to collect item but changed their mind and said they were not as described. Didn't entirely agree with him but agree that the buyer has the right to change their mind and not pay if he thinks they were not what was expected.

How would this work for getting my seller fees back as it isn't technically a non paying buyer and what should I do next

Thanks

I'd do a non paying bidder as they havent paid.

Bit harsh to do this and give them a strike if the item wasn't as described.

I would first send them a polite message to see if they will agree to a cancellation instead.

This is a collection only item and OP is correct in hoping for cash on collection. So if they now open an NPB the buyer can close by paying by PayPal, then reclaiming their money back due to non delivery. That would probably be enough to persuade them to leave a neg.

In this instance I think a mutual cancellation request is the correct way to go.

  • email them and say you are sending a request to mutually end transaction. Say item on ebay is showing as payment not recieved. Let them know that this means you will get your fees back and the item will stop showing as non payment received with ebay. in their ebay it will continue to show as item needs to be paid for. This will prompt them to end the transaction mutually.

I wouldn't bother with the NPB as soolin said

Thanks, can I do this now or do I have to wait for 4 days to mutually end transaction. I am assuming it is also in the non paying buyers interest to agree to mutually end transaction also.
  • you can do it straight away but send them a message first explaining why you are sending it in case they decide to ignore it. it wouldn't make any difference to the non paying buyer if they ignore it but you don't need to tell them that....but if they ebay savvy then they may already know

Of course, there is the possibility that they may be pee'd off if they made a journey to collect and found the item was not as described, so they may refuse to cancel.
