Changing address of bank account - more than one system to update?

I brought some Euros on a prepay card last week from FairFX online. Annoyingly the money went through even though the order failed. Thankfully I finally managed to get it back as the pending payment failed!

Through my discussions with FairFX and Santander to get the money back they both blamed each other. FairFX said that Santander had the wrong address for me (the reason the payment failed). However, I've spoken to two Santander people and they say my address is fine.

I moved house a couple of months back and changed my address over the internet. I'm a little suspicious as since then, i've opened up a second bank account with Santander and on the print out they gave me, it had an old address on it.

Has anyone else experienced problems with change of address or know the ins and out of Santander's system? I want to believe them but it doesn't add up!

I just wondered whether there something I could ask specifically to be checked if I ask again. I still need Euros but I'm worried my payment will go into thin air again.

Joint or sole account? That you are tring to use.

Some banks will require both parties to update address details on a joint account.
What address does it show on the online copies of statements?
Try caling into a branch and get them to confirm the address details.

Sounds as if Santander have not actioned your address change on all their systems. Ask them to confirm, in writing, that they do have the correct address for you, in all places in their system. Tell them about your concerns, too, in the strongest possible but polite words. I'd use the internal messaging system for that.

If, god forbid, you run into problems subsequently because they had an incorrect address for you, at least you will have evidence that it was their fault, and you will be able to claim appropriate compensation.
  • It's a single account, although I also have a seperate joint account with them. I will check both addresses have been changed.

Thanks Innovate, good idea. I will write. I'm worried it will effect things in the future if I don't get it sorted out now (or perhaps I should just take it as a hint to leave :) ).
