A bit of advice please, what clippers for a poodle?

Hi
My mum's got a rather stupid (but lovable) toy poodle, and we're looking at clipping him ourselves as he gets stressed at the vets, and our regular groomer has moved.
We've never got him clipped as a "show" type, just a general all round tidy up (usually leaving his top knot a bit longer than the rest of him).
So what we're wondering is, if anyone has any recommendations for clippers?
We've had a look and Andis and Oyster seem to be recommended on US sites, but we were wondering if anyone here had experience of them?
The Andis ones seem to have plenty of spares available via Amazon and the like (different blades), which would be handy.
We tried a pair of Wahl clippers when he was much younger, but he hated them, I suspect at least partly because they were cheap, and possibly not intended for poodle type hair*.
We've already got a grooming table which we use when brushing him etc, so it's mainly clippers, and some general advice
*I have a sneaking suspicion they were just a repackaged set (with video) also sold for human hair.
Cheers.
