DRO and DLA?

Hi, I am a disabled mum and I have 3 children one of which is also disabled.

I get low rate DLA for care and mobility and my child gets middlerate care

I am writing up my income/outgoings the problem is the DLA though we spend it every month without fail it is on different things each month for example one month I might need my wheelchair fixed or a new battery and my daughter has a makaton course
the following it might be that I spend it on some care equiptment (our occupational therepists are very tight here and we have to buy our own special cutlery which is very expensive) and we go to a club for the speach problems (which incures higher travel club fee's eating while out etc) or for both of us sometimes we try alterntive medicines which we have to pay for ourselves.

Im not sure what to do, I read one thing which said DLA doesnt get counted, something else said the amount of DLA can just be written as an equal expenditure (so for example I get 164.40pm and I could just put something like disability expences £160.40?)

Im really confused could anyone shed some light?

I am going to CAB in a couple of weeks, they asked me to bring a copy of ingoings out going it is 2 towns away which I have to try and get there in my wheelchair which is a nightmare so I want to make sure its not a wasted journey)

Yes that's correct. The expenditure item is now termed 'disability and care costs.'
  • Fab thank you
  • If you are having probs getting to them maybe go for an online company like payplan or cccs. They should calculate you higher outgoings so your dla goes on things you need.
Hope it all works out for you.
  • I have to agree the CCCS have been very helpful and it can all be done over the phone even via a freephone number so might be worth talking to them.
