:(Hi...im new here, but glad i joined! I was just wondering if anyone can help me with query as I cannot seem to find the answer on the internet...what it is, is:

My car insurance was due for renewal and on the 1st september I recieved my renewal email from my present insurer and then a letter from them on the 9th september (my present car insurance runs out on 28th september) but when I recieved my renewal email I thought I would shop around on the comparison sites. I eventually found a quote from onequote direct which was a lot cheaper so I opted for that.

I paid them on the 1st september and recieved a email reciept confirmation which said my policy would follow shortly via email and requested me to forward them proof of my no claims within the next ten days. I do not have access to a scanner so I forwarded them my email renewal and also I posted via recorded delivery my renewal letter.

Afterwards I emailed them again to confirm whether they have recieved it or not and as they havent responded to that email (four days ago) I emailed them again but still no answer for another two days! Its been a week now and no response!..Ive yet to recieve my insurance policy/certificate although my insurance doesnt start for another ten days...I feel like cancelling as Ive read such bad reviews about them!...If i cancel..would I have to give them a cancellation fee because my policy's not even started yet...also Ive not even recieved any documents through yet...

My worry comes from experience...that no documents comes through via email and il be driving around with no insurance...this has happened before to a friend of mine before who went through exactly the same routine as me despite him having paid for it! Onequote directs reponse time to email queries are meant to be three days...so why do they take this long?:(

Your post is really hard to read, my eyes are going funny, could you hit the edit button and put a few paragraphs in.

    Which company is it?

Have you checked the recorded delivery with the post office?

Have you tried ringing them? It maybe that they take up to 5 working days to desal with e-mails.

Also have you let the old company know you won't be renewing?

  • You need to read the online documentation about cancellations to see what, if any, penalty is applied before the policy incepts.

    Why not telephone them on 0844 5610087, 01454 410452 or 0800 0891317

Also remember that you'll need to call your current insurers to tell them that the policy is to lapse and not be renewed

As above make sure you notify the current insurer that you wont be renewing.

Stopping the direct debit etc is not enough. You must contact them to say do not renew,

Thanks for your reply...ive already done that....but im more concerned with this new company called onequote direct. Emails are meant to be replied by them in three days...but ive had no replies for over a week now...

Ivw insured in good time..but a friend of mine did the same and then found out he wasnt insured! He only found this out when he got stopped by the police and his car wasnt on the M.I.D! Thats why with plenty of time now I wanna sort it...or cancel it but I dont wanna pay them any admin charges which is what they usually take..even though they havent done anything to deserve it.

Ive paid fully for the year and dont really want to ring their 0844 number as last time I was on the phone waiting for 12 minutes before I got a answer that was unrelated to this query.

What do you think...I just think insurance companies tend to forget about you once youve paid...but I dont want to be one of those people driving around with their car not on the M.I.D...

Although M.I.D. is kept up to date it is not infallable, and sometimes it may contain the wrong, or no information at all on your vehicle

Hi..just wanna say thanks for the other numbers because I didnt have them...phoned them onequote direct today and was kept waiting for 15 minutes!...good thing I had their freephone number!

Anyway they had to go through everything with me again to find me despite my reference number!...so it was a good thing I started to chase them up early before the policy actually started.

But I still need to check the M.I.D when my current insurance expires because like James says, the M.I.D is not infallible...and neither is my new insurers after whats happened!...many thanks to everyone who's posted advice!
  • On the basis OneQuote are an intermediary it is most likely (but not definite) that the insurer that will do the MID load so your poor experience with them may not reflect in that sort of future issues
