iPhone insurance

Hello,

I have an old iphone 3gs 8gb and have dropped it and its not working properly.
I have gadget insurance through yorkshire bank account as part of the account.
I have a couple of questions as I'm thinking of claiming on it:

- can I claim for it as its damaged or does it have to be broken?
- the phone is 3 years old and i got it as part of a paid up o2 contract, i don't have any proof that its mine (it is all above board and legal)
- if i claimed on it would i have to declare it on any future house insurance quotes?

Thanks for any advice, not sure of the best option/way forward.

1) If its not working properly then it is broken. Most policies wont cover purely cosmetic damage (eg if the back case was cracked) but given you've got functional difficulties then this isnt an issue

2) You can only tell if this is an issue by talking to the insurer. Normally you would still have gotten a receipt/ invoice when you got it even if it shows a £0 price against it (I know as the wife broke her O2 3GS a couple of years ago and I had to dig it out)

3) Depends on the wording of the question of the home insurer's questions. If it asks about "incidents" then yes you probably would. If it asks for "home claims" then no you wouldnt

As the policy isnt new for old they will probably simply do a cash settlement. Looking at Amazon the second hand prices seem to be around £80 and with a £25 excess then you'll probably get around £65 if you were to claim and it is successful.

I might as well give it a go!

I might have to contact o2 as they sold me the phone as I have nothing at all as far as im aware.

The function button isnt working at all so I have to re-boot it everytime i want to move around apps!
