I'm flabbergasted by the responses - 46% of women solely deal with the finances? If I left it to my wife we would be living in a cardboard box under a railway bridge:rotfl:...and as for my daughters........:eek:0

Under a railway bridge is where we'd be if I left the finances to OH, he's better now with my influence but was in debt when we met 20 odd yrs ago wouldn't know where to start when it came to utilities and savings..:D if I didn't point him in the right direction.#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

My wife is the brains of the outfit.
Although she does occasionally value my input , probably about once ever three years or so ..0 -
We consult on big purchases like finding a fixed rate mortgage or buying white goods, and I shop around for the best energy deals etc. I handle all practical arrangements except for anything to do with the car and regular charity giving, which DH does. He's very averse to online banking whereas I rely on it and check it to the penny daily. My current account functions as our household account, along with my budget spreadsheet, and he transfers a set amount to me which means we have equal 'play money' left and I know nothing will bounce or go unpaid. He wouldn't know where to start to budget or save! It would really frighten him. He thinks going to Random High Street Fried Chicken And Kebab instead of 'posh' KFC counts as frugal living
Really we're following the model that my parents used; Dad never wanted to know about money except pocket money and Mum handled everything. It suits our own particular skills - I'm a control freak and he's happy-go-lucky.

"At the risk of being completely mistaken", you should really have said. There is no "butch one" in my relationship.0 -
Might have been a good idea to ask it as a 2 question poll - gender of the poster and then the current question - that way you can see if it is skewed by who responds to the poll.
I deal with practically all the financial decisions except weekly food shopping - my wife deals with that side of things. I think it works well - I don't have the patience or the memory to deal with comparing so many different products every week to keep on top of what is cheapest where and she doesn't have the patience to spend a few hours bargain hunting on the big things like utilities and insurance.0 -
I voted man does nearly everything, not a 'battle of the genders' though. It is just I'm good with money and she is very bad (she says that herself so I won't get a slap for saying it!!!) she prefers me to sort the finances out and I'm happy to do it.If you don't like what I say slap me around with a large trout and PM me to tell me why.
If you do like it please hit the thanks button.0 -
So why does it not apply if you are in a same sex relationship? So you don't want to know if one person over another takes more financial responsibility in a household, you want to know specifically men over women (and vice versa).
Only one possible answer to that. Has to be homophobia. Obviously!!! Couldn't possibly be anything to with practicability, the fact that the two being the same gender would mean the statistics couldn't work as the answer would always be the same ... er "He wears the trousers" (gay) or "She wears the trousers" (lesbian).

I voted we share. Because we do. And it seems to work out fine. Isn't that lovely? And after all these years too. One of those rarities ... a long and happy monogamous (dual sex) marriage. Since 1972. Two young hippy types fell in lust and now here we are to this day, still together.
Aaaah!
