We bought a sofa bed on Ebay a week ago on a buy it now. The seller has been away and we collected it yesterday. It was advertised as being in very good condition but when we have got it home we have noticed that one of the arms sure snapped. It's not noticeable just by looking at looking at utterly but you can't lean on it. What do I do now?

Contact the seller and ask/tell them. They may not know and be willing to sort it out, if you don't contact them first then you don't know what you're dealing with.
If you paid cash and collected yourself then you should have checked it before taking it and the seller doesn't have to do anything and as a used item you're stuck with it.
There are then various scales of things that can happen depending on payment/seller, etc. but start by contacting the seller..0 -
Actually we paid by paypal- would this make a difference? to be honest the seller has really messed us about on this one, they put it up as a buy it now for 30 days. When we bought it we wanted to collect it straight away but they gave us the wrong dimensions which meant it wouldnt fit in our car. So we had to hire a van. They seller wen away 2 days after they sold the item so we coulnt collect for a week. When we did collect it turns out that the item is smaller than advertised and would have fit into the car anyway. So we wasted money on hiring a van only to end up with a duff sofa bed. I have emailed the seller so will wait to see their response.Wins

The only thing you could do if you were dishonest is put in an item not recited claim and get your money back.Needing to lose weight start date 26 December 2011 current loss 60 pound Down. Lots more to go to get into my size 6 jeans0

They paid by paypal so surely can file a SNAD claim and have some buyer protection through that?
Obviously speak to the seller first though and, if you don't get the response you want, then think about filing a claim."So long and thanks for all the fish" :hello:0 -

They would have to prove return though and sending a sofa tracked could be fun.
Personally, although it is probably a little naughty if seller refused to play ball I'd open an INR then return the sofa to their front garden on receipt of my refund.0 -
:rotfl: Cheeky yes, but one way of doing it.

Surely ebay have means to deal with returns of "collect in person" items though? It might be one of the cases where you need to actually talk to someone at ebay for advice, rather than rely on the resolution centre."So long and thanks for all the fish" :hello:0 -

Fair enough, one way of doing it!0 -
Ok I have an outcome - the seller has agreed for us to keep the sofa (which we are going to put back on ebay) and they have refunded the cost of hiring a van as we cold have fit it in our car if they had given the correct sizes (which I emailed them about and double checked) I also think they knew about it being broken all along as I can see it in the picture now!Wins

You collected it? Did you not inspect it 1st?
If its not as described then dont buy it.
We bought a sofa recently from a local place that also list on ebay. Its one of the cheap cheap ones that look nice but probably not really to be used daily.
I keep waiting for it to fall apart. But i just know as soon as i complain they will be gone. All locked up and moved or changed owners.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

That may be OK in the ebay world, but not the real world. Out there it's called fraud and the seller can take you to court.
If it's a private seller and it was an auction, as far as I know it's sold as seen, not covered by guarantees.
If you are not prepared to take the risk don't buy from auctions from private sellers, but from proper businesses. If you want something second hand and cheap then you need to inspect it properly when you buy.
As people often say on these boards, if you are a seller don't let people collect and pay by paypal as they can get their money back through a false claim.0
