D.O.C cover liability

It's always been my understanding that should I use my doc cover to drive another car, for which I'm not a named driver, my only cover on that car is Third Party. Should I stuff said car into a wall I will be fully responsible for the damage I cause to the car. As such I never drive other peoples cars, despite being insured to do so, as I don't want to pay for any damage I may cause.

A colleague believes that the owner of the car's fully comp insurance will pay for the repairs to the car should I damage it.

Who is correct?

The fully comp policy would only cover you if you were a named driver on the policy. Fully comp policies are not a free for all so that any one can drive the car and write it off.

That's exactly what I thought. Cheers.

Lots are stating your not covered to DOC if that car is not insured.

It appeared on my paperwork this year.

    Seems they are clamping down.

Or (quite rare now days) if it was an any driver policy.

It's worth noting there are a couple of companies that offer comprehensive driving other cars, however their prices are for the very rich.
