  • If you feel that you care for your MIL more than your BIL does and you meet the criteria you could contact the dwp for change of carer.

    When we did this, mum was my brothers carer however her health went down hill fast so could no longer help, I stepped in. I remember filling in a form where mum declared she no longer cared for my brother (sort of signing off). Me his sister accepting I would become his carer and my brother signing to agree to the change. Then a couple of months after changeover happened my brother got a phone call from the dwp to check/confirm I was caring for him.

    I remember all parties had to agree which might not be the case for you unfortunately.
