My Student Accommodation

Just a vent about my student accommodation.

Now its a privately run one and consists of loads of small 4-5 bedroom shared student type houses in a big complex. I booked with them 2 weeks ago and paid my deposit and rent instalment to move in starting from yesterday.

Now I went on the site today as I have a friend who might come live here too. While checking the booking for them I noticed the rent price has been reduced by over £300 for the 44 weeks the contract runs for!

I know I agreed to pay the price and was happy with it (it is cheap for accommodation in this area) but it's just annoying that people will be moving in to the same buildings as me using the same kitchen/bathrooms and size bedrooms and getting it all for £300 less because I assume they still have a lot of spare rooms available.

Arghhh it's just annoying, I could have left it until now to book and I only booked earlier to get it out of the way. Reckon I should email them and see what they have to say for themselves :p I know they're pefectly entitled to do it but it's just frustrated me haha!

That's life. There are things being reduced everywhere, so do you think that every time a business reduces something, they have to refund everyone who paid more before?

I know that it's life and it's just one of those frustrating things, I never said anyone should be refunded or anything!

I'm annoyed with myself because I didn't have to book so early as my university doesn't start until October, and i'm annoyed they are reduced to last years rates. I can't imagine the whole student population here being very happy if word got out it's been reduced haha :p

No different to buying a pair of jeans, and then your mate getting them for 50% off in the sale the following week.....Welcome to real life, lol.

...and what if you'd left it awhile and the price went up in the meantime? Life's full of these dilemmas. Consider this an early start to your university education.

Then I would have gone somewhere else! I'm afraid my university education is almost over though as I am in my fourth and final year.

Then let's hope it's downhill from here on in.

There's drawbacks and benefits of booking well in advance. Had the deman been high you would be happy to have booked well in advance.
You could have left it later and took your chances or booked early and had peace of mind, which as it turns out cost £300
  • What do you have to pay to cancel the contract you've already signed?

I'm sure there have been other years when accommodation has been at a premium and prices have increased just before term started.

This place has never got full in the 2 years i've been here already (but then again they've never reduced the price either) so the only reason I booked earlier was because I was bored at home one day and thought I might as well! :p

It's essentially a "you must find someone to transfer your contract to or pay up" contract. I looked into that aswell to see if I could jig things around but I don't think I can!
