Stoneacre and Punto - AVOID

I've had nothing but problems ever since I bought my Fiat Punto from a Stoneacre garage in 2009.

They cut my guarantee short by a year when things started going wrong...

The CD player barely works, and sometimes I have to insert the CD over 20 times for it to play and not give me an error sign.

The music player breaks so often I've lost count.

It almost failed it's first ever MOT due to emissions being too high.

I've had to get it repaired and it's been brought into the garage so many times due to recalls and problems I've also lost count...

The staff were unbelievably rude when we pointed out that we had an issue... We were accused of being liars as to when we were told our guarantee ran out....

Not to mention the car drives horrifically bad :(

Save your pennies, buy a different car, from a different garage!

    "nearly failed"???

What's the age and mileage of the vehicle?

What kind of problems have you had and how many miles do you do?
  • Whilst I have absolutley no intention of buying a Fiat Punto, the only specific problems mentioned are the CD player and the "music player" (?), which is hardly the end of the world.

As for "almost" failing due to high emissions, this could simply be a case of needing a minor tweak rather than signs of any serious engine problems.

When I say it almost failed, it did fail. But they retested it and it managed to fall just below the highest level of emissions that can pass.

The car is nearly 4 years old and I've had it since brand new... The CD and music problems have only been half of the problems, it's more the service and treatment from Stoneacre... They refused to fix things on the car when still in warranty.... And when asked if they could fix the music system, which I was told was a 2 second job but I couldn't do myself due to it voiding the warranty, they also refused when I was putting it in for a service with them regardless...

They lied when selling the car in regards to what the warranty covered, and to say that the warranty was the reason why we bought the car to begin with we felt completely ripped off. When we questioned the service we were faced with a very rude manager who refused to look into our case..

Standard manufacturers warranty is 3 years
you say your car is nearly 4 years old
so you either have extended warranty or you dont
    look in your paperwork
a car failing emmisions at 4 years old could be for any reason
a failing stereo is most likely only a one year warranty anyway
you seem to be making a mountain out of a molehill
ive only ever had perfect customer service from stoneacre the company does try hard
  • a car failing emmisions at 4 years old could be for any reason

But this one failed the emissions test when it was only 3 years old, something which I wouldn't expect from a car which sounds as if had been fully dealer serviced.

    How does servicing affect emissions?

    Very serious.
Part of the annual (or 10K) service includes checking the exhaust gas makeup, so this should have been done at least twice before the 1st MOT.

Apart from the above job being carried out on the 2nd service, the plugs and air filter should have been changed, then if the 3 year service was done before the MOT, the lambda sensor should have been tested (for a petrol car), and any emissions above the recommended limit should have been noticed at this stage.

There is no reason why a correctly serviced vehicle should have any problems with emissions when it's only 3 years old.

It had a full service history from Stoneacre and the emissions kicked up a fuss on it's first MOT after 3 years.

When I say I had problems with the warranty this was WITHIN the 3 years at which my warranty was supposed to cover, not after the warranty was supposed to end, which is why I was very frustrated!
