MSE News: Co-op blocks bankrupts from bank accounts

As Barclays nearly made me bankrupt by their evil ways if this had happened a few months ago and the worst had happened I would have been stuck.

Barclays sold my loan to external debt collectors and closed down all my accounts despite telling me everything was fine (I was waiting to sell my house to settle a business loan). They didnt even call me to tell me - the first I knew was a letter. Co op saved the day, were very kind to me during a tearful phonecall and gave me a Cashminder account.

Even though I wasnt bankrupt (I do have a CCJ) Co Op really helped me out that day and thankfully things are a lot better. It makes me sad that people in an even tougher situation might not be helped and thrown to the mercy of Barclays. However I am supportive of their reasons. Many people are in trouble due to the banks being over pushy on selling credit cards and loans. They have been part of the problem and its not up to Co Op to mop up their mess.

Might be worth a letter to their CEO given their approach to social inclusion, nothwitstanding the subject of the thread.
