Can you help me sort out a car insurance query?

This sounds a bit complicated, but I'll try and explain as best I can.

1. I had a car with my personal number plate.
2. I have now part exchanged this car through a dealer, and he is in the process of sorting out the plates for me and fitting them. In fact I have now received the new tax discs for both cars.
4. I now have my original car's tax disc which I am sending in for refund, and I have the new tax disc with my personal plate for my new car.
5. When I originally changed the cars, I contacted my insurance company to insure the new car under it's normal plate which they did.
6. Now, I have to contact them again to arange cover for my new car with my personal plate. This, then is the problem. As I haven't received the new registration documents for my new car (with my plate), all insurance inquiries for my number refer to my previous car . How can I make absolutely sure that I am covered to drive my new vehicle with the correct number.

There, I told you it was complicated!;);)

  • Lol, could have been much shorter explanation saying you were switching plates on a car and the DVLA havent updated the database yet.

As far as I knew you cannot switch the plates until you have the authorisation letter (V948) and once that letters been generated then the db will have been updated.

Ultimately take the advices of your insurers, some will overwrite the details from the DVLA on their system with what you state are correct where another may advise you are covered but phone back in 2 weeks to do the update to the reg

I have had those forms and the plates have been made and have been fitted today, but I haven't had the registration document yet, but I will ring my insurers and see what they say. Thank you:T

Ok now. I rang my insurers, no problem, just told them the new reg number and they sent me a new certificate online. Sorted:beer: Sorry for the roundabout explanation:o

Glad you are sorted. I was just going to say that my insurer allows online changes but it usually doesn't work when private plates are involved. They have always been able to do the change over the phone usually the old fashioned way of asking make, model, engine etc..
