Pregnant / Not working / No benefits?

Hiya,

I've really tried to read all the stuff available, but it all seems to say I'm not entitled to diddly squat, which I'm struggling to understand.
I was made redundant June last year and haven't found work since, I claimed the JSA I was entitled to as "Contribution" based after working and paying taxes for over 16 years.
I am married and my Husband works, but with his income at £19,000 we're very lucky to be covering our outgoings, including a mortgage.
Just wondered if anyone could clarify for me, if I can get something and if so what would it be?

You may not be able to get anyhting, but your husband may be able to make a joint claimn, see the turn2us.org.uk checker.

You need to do this now, and for the period when bubs is born. it may be a good idea to prepare the forms so that he can just send them through as soon as you have the birth certificate. You rpbably do not want to be scrattig around trying to find NI numbers the day after giving birth.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

Were you already pregnant when you were made redundant?
  • Not sure you can (and I sympathise with trying to fnd work when pregnant). Once baby is here you will get some CTC and CB.

I too sympathise, many people do not realise that there is not always a benefit 'per person'. The household income is key and a partner/spouse's income is one joint that is deemed to be held jointly, as is any WTC. The extra's (CB/CTC) are paid in respect of the children's needs.

Means tested benefits for couples are calculated on household income, not expenditure. If the Turn2us online benefit calculator shows that you have no further entitlements, then what you have is a budgeting issue - download the MSE budget planner and work through the site to identify where/how to make savings.
  • Thank you all for replying.

I have tried the turn to us and website which comes out as 0, which is why I thought I'd check with you all.

I have been using the Budget Planner for many many years, which is one of the reasons we aren't on the breadline, but thanks again guys.
