Need sugar free squash - not no added sugar

Going to visit somebody in hospital and he's diabetic. Blood sugars are up and the nurses are giving him a hard time over his no added sugar squash. They said he has to have sugar free because of the natural sugars in fruit.

Any body have any idea which brand makes it - does it even exist?

It would be much easier to have water, but he has asked me to get him squash?

Thank you ikkle87 - i googled it too and didnt find any.

No good though - nutritional information says it has 1g of sugar.

That one has 1g sugar per 100ml concentrate, Robinsons no added sugar has 0.6g per 100ml so seems it's the same thing more or less.

Edited - sorry that was the figure for Robinsons's Orange, the apple/blackcurrant is 1.2g

I dont know if such a thing exist - as obviously fruit has naturally occuring sugars and sqaush contains fruit?

Hit the nail on the head there.

What about other diet drinks? Diet ginger-beer has none, and Barr's Diet Irn Bru has a fruity flavour and 0g sugars:

I know that but the one I linked to is actually recommended for diabetics hun, seems silly to me too but if it keeps the nurses off his back and allows him something a bit more palatable than tap water then it's probably worth it. x

  • Erm, I'm diabetic and I drink Robinson's No Added Sugar squash. The amount you use when diluting a glassfull is totally negligible. (at a guess you might use 20ml concentrate, so that has 0.1g sugar). His nurses want to be looking for another cause if his blood sugars are consistently high.

OP - stuff like Diet Coke / Lemonade has zero sugar if you want to get him something.
  • Boots used to do a diabetic squash, years back....
  • Have you tried a health food shop? Or try googling for a specialist online diabetic supplier?
