How much is good will?
Hi.
I moved into my new property early this year. Since this date I have experienced massive issues with my gas and electricity supplier.
As soon as I moved in I rang up and gave my meter readings and my own details. I did not set up a DD as I had requested a new provider and expected to only be with my supplier for 1-2 months max.
My electricity was moved at 3 months. Issue number 1 - I still have not been issued a bill for this 3 month period due to 'system issues'.
Gas could not be moved as my new supplier said my address details were not right and my current supplier needed to update them. I asked the current supplier to do this twice (6 week process) and on the third call they still not had actioned. In July my current supplier found out I was on an independent gas supply and stated that my new supplier would not take me on (note this turns out to be they cannot take me on the tariff not at all as stated by current supplier!). During this time I have been repeatedly chased with letters demanding payments for gas bills within 5 days of receipt addressed to 'the occupier'. I have been in tears on the phone to my current supplier as they are so appallingly bad.
I am trying now to get my final bills. I have asked for a significant good will gesture. They have asked me what significant is - is this right?! Should they not be offering and I reject? Does anybody have an indication of what they could/ should offer?
PS they did not resolve my complaint in the time so I have an option of going to the ombudsmen.
Sorry for any grammar mistakes. Trying to write this in a hurry!

£20, cost of callsDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

New properties, new postcodes, cause great confusion for computer systems.
Unfortunately, the stress falls upon the individual.
It is not entirely clear from your post as to whether or not you have now arrived at a satisfactory conclusion, but you are clearly capable of standing your ground, and you have done the right thing by continuing to communicate with the various parties who are involved.
But it is unlikely that your claim for compensation will do anything more than cause you more grief.0 -
It depends on what their policy is.
Years ago, £20 was the norm but for some suppliers they seem to dish out £50 instead.
Its not uncommon to see >£100.
One thing the supplier has to consider, is that an ombudsman referral costs them £350. That's before they even get to the compensation part.
So, consider this in negotiating because if you can make them think you won't progress it, they may give a higher level.
Its a question no one really knows the answer to so go for what you think is right.
Sadly, Ofgem removed the standards which forced suppliers to pay out guaranteed amounts...which was much better in many cases for the consumer as it was a per month value.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
Thanks all, I have written to my supplier with a cheeky but justified percentage. I will let you know if I have any luck!0
