Carpet cleaners

Our carpets could do with a thorough clean....

Th options are,
1) Get in a pro cleaner
2) Rent a Rug doctor (from supermarket/diy store) Just over £30 for a day i think.
3) Buy a dedicated cleaner, seen Vax carpet cleaners for around £100

So im guessing the rug doctor will give me virtually the same result as having someone in?

But on the other hand, rent it 3 times and i could have bought a machine.

Will the VAX (or similar) type dedicated carpet cleaners work as well?

Now the other deciding factors, im not affraid of doing the hardwork, we have limited space, oh, and a 18month old daughter.

Im tempted to rent one this time, then buy one to do it regularly.

Personally I'd buy one, particularly with an 18 month old. Theres loads of years of spills ahead -lol I've got a Bissell upright and it's brilliant. I do wish I'd gone for one with upholstery brushes though but at the time my budget was £100 and they were more than that. I have rented in the past and had much better results from my Bissell. HTH

IMHO ive used lots of different carpet cleaners like Vax and find them awfull - particularly on settees.

Id go for the professional one and then get ready with some spray clean for and future mishaps

I have 3 children youngest 3, and a dog ( oh and a hubby! ) and we bought a carpet cleaner 2 years ago and I wouldn't be without one. It only takes a few minutes to clean with the machine and it's there when you need it. would definately buy one x

    The rug doctor is amazing!!!!!

I used to use a bissel pro heat, but find these much more better and faster to use.

I used the Rug Doctor and it's okay, but if you're carpets are past their best, don't expect them to perform miracles.

I think we will hire in a rug doctor or similar this time, to get them as best as they will be. Then get our own cleaner and do it regularly.

    Cheers
  • The Rug Doctor truly is amazing... I have a Bissell Proheat 2x and ran it over the livingroom carpets no less then three times this morning, and it didnt matter... The carpets just looked muddy and dirty.

I went to our local grocery store and rented a rug doctor and just one swipe across the living room floors made a believer out of me. The difference was night and day.

We're having a garage sale this weekend and the Bissell is sure to be put out on the line for sale, and my next major home purchase is going to be a new rug doctor because it cleaned like nothing before it.

It really is easily comparible to a professional cleaning of the rugs, only (when rented) at a fraction of the cost.

I think it cost me about $21.00 to rent it and another $14.00 for the cleaning solution which is okay, though I like the bissell cleaning solution which smells like lavender and sells for less.

We want to rent a rug doctor when we move house. The vendor has a dog and the carpets are cream. They aren't particularly dirty or grubby but I want to know in my own mind they are clean IYSWIM.

Wondering how long it takes the carpets to dry out once they are clean?

    Thanks

Not long, I would say they are touch dry in about 3 hours.
