Cambrills is no where near salou. We went a few years ago and stayed at the cambrills princess and it was terrible (think its called the best now) you need to get the bus either to cambrills or salou. There is not alot at cambrills just a few shops and seafood restaurants

Or look for a cheaper holiday? Why are you going all inclusive? Why are you going for two weeks? Is it really worth getting into debt (which is effectively what paying in installments is, especially if they charge interest) just for a holiday? It's much cheaper to go self-catering and buy food in the local shops/markets. It's much cheaper to go somewhere closer to home. It's much cheaper to go for a shorter period. If £2200 is how much it costs, and you can't really afford it, then you should look for something you can afford.

Sorry to be so harsh, but this site is all about saving money.

Paying in installments before you travel is good budgeting and does not incur any additional costs. Not everybody can afford to spend £2200 in one go but £2200 spread over 6 months or so is a lot more manageable.

While there are lots of arguments for going self catering vs all inclusive, cost is not one of them and All inclusive will undoubtedly win. You also can't get much closer home than Spain (and have you seen the cost of Butlins/Haven etc during school holidays).

OP, have you visited the area before (and like it) or are you looking for a more relaxed holiday. Cambrilles is a nice little fishing village with a great beach. Salou is a more vibrant town with a nice beach and of cause is within walking distance of Portaventura. La Pinada is also a more 'child friendly' resort with a another great beach and long promenade. It also has the best water park in the area and is close to Portaventura.

As other people have said Thomas Cook Travel Agents are usually good at doing good deals (in may experience, a lot better than First Choice shops.) This is a good website which generally offers good price package holidays: http://www.holidayhypermarket.co.uk/ It's safe because it's owned by TUI (Thomson/First Choice) and you can pay by installments.
  • Ok thank you to everyone who has responded. I'll answer as much as I can :)

Yes, I've been to Salou before....Cap Salou actually and we went into Salou itself a few times. We didn't want to stay in Salou itself but rather somewhere a little quieter where we could catch a bus and head elsewhere when we like. Yes, I know Cambrils isn't in Salou and I also know the hotel we're staying in isn't actually in Cambrils itself although is advertised as being in Cambrils but is half an hour walk each way to either Salou or Cambrils but we're happy with this as we want a quiet base from which we can visit other places and the bus service will help us do this. The beach is right on the doorstep (well almost!) aswell and there are a few bars and shops in the immediate area.

Ronaldo, that's exactly where we are staying but recent reviews have said the hotel is much better now under new management and the majority of recent reviews on tripadvisor have been great.

After pricing the holiday with quite a lot of other holiday companies we found that Thomas Cook was doing it cheapest so we went today and they got another few quid knocked off it so it's now been booked for £2009 for 12 nights :)

Finally.....12 nights = £2009, 7 nights = £1701. So yes, we think going for longer makes more sense money wise. All inclusive means once the holiday is paid for then that is all food and drink included so spending money isn't much of an issue and, for us, works out much cheaper with kids wanting drinks and snacks all day in the heat than having to buy food on top of everything else. Self catering prices weren't working out much cheaper (£1772 for 12 nights, £1484 for 7 nights) and as someone else said....the prices for Haven etc are SHOCKING. It's not 'debt' to me to be paying for a holiday. It's something that we can afford but not in one lump sum!

So, we're all booked and as someone said....I just need to stop myself from checking the prices every few weeks to see if I would have saved anything :D

I think for a family of 4 AI you have got a good price, well done for getting more money off, now you've got something to look forward to, to get you through the winter. Have you got insurance (not necessarily TCs) because if you haven't make that your first priority asap.
  • Thanks Steph, my bank account covers my families holiday insurance so I don't have to worry about that :T
