Hi.
I took out a Barclaycard 9 years ago in which they messed up twice i tried to set up a direct debit expecting me to pay the charges they put on. I refused to pay so after a while it went to a default after they sold on the debt numerous times. That default was removed from my report last year. Im now looking to take out a credit card and the best card it keeps advising me is the Barclaycard Initial. Does anybody know is Barclaycard would still hold records of my previous time with them or if it would now be a clean slate?

I'd love to know this too. I messed up with them about 7 years ago. Had to come to a settlement agreement and closed account. Can't remember if it was defaulted. No record of Barclaycard on my credit file anymore. I do have a ccj on experian and call c due off in 10 days :j but as it has come off equifax early, i did a soft search and they still say i am not Eligible for any card. Thinking they may of' black listed' me!
I thought the Gold card was available to you even with a ccj over 12 months old.0 -

I'd like to know this three.
You can do a soft-search on your name and address, if they keep a little black book on you then surely it would come up with your acceptance rate being a very low percentage and it would say they are not likely to offer you a card?
EDIT: My reply was to the original post btw.0 -
I have just spoken to someone at Barclaycard, he couldn't really answer any of my questions, but he did say that information over 5 years old, ie closed accounts would not have an impact on the application as they don't hold details any longer. He aslo said which i can't quite get my head round is that the Pre application checker is just a tool and even if it says you could get the Initial, Gold etc it doesn't mean you will and vice versa, if it says you wouldn't get any it doesn't mean for sure that you won't!! He said the only way to know for sure is to go through with the application!0

The problem with the pre applications are that they are just a rough guide to your circumstances and not a personal in detail view. I am 7/10 likely to get the Barclaycard Initial. Just dont really want to apply and fail and then have it on my report. Thankyou Sammie for getting in touch with them. They obviously dont like to reveal too much. Would the 5 years be from the start or the end of the contract? All very confusing.0

He said 5 years from account closure. I am totally confused as to why i can't get any of their cards, especialy when it says you can have a ccj over 12 months old and no more than 2 late payments for the Gold Card!!
My Equifax file is clean. No ccj, on Electrol register, no defaults, no late payments. Think i will try 'soft search' again at the end of the month when i know the ccj is definately off all 3 CRA's. If it still says no to all cards i will try Nationwide. Good luck if you do decide to apply.0 -
You're quite brave ringing them up to say hello I owed you a couple of grand 6 years ago but its dropped off my record so can I apply for another card - so kudos for that.0

However Sammie, if you are getting a red card, then they must keep something on their records, regardless of the call centre telling you its five years.
They wouldn't be that stupid (that's not a knock at you, more them saving face)0 -
RichL74, I didn't owe them 2 grand (alot less) and i paid them the settlement figure they asked for as full and final settlement. But i see what your saying. There must be something affecting it, but whether it's my old account, who knows! I applied last year without doing the pre application check and was accepted for the gold card, got the paper work, signed, sent back with 2 forms of id or whatever they asked for, then got a letter a few days later saying, sorry but on this occasion you don't meet out criteria!!! Don't think i will ever understand Barclaycard.0

Yeah, sorry, I wasn't suggesting you personally owed two grand, just a 'plucked out of the air' figure.0

Did you apply in the end?0
