I have 4 items which (I hope) keep my system crap-free.
    I run :-
    AVG for viruses
    Spybot & Adaware for malware/spyware
and I've been recommended Comodo as a firewall instead of Zonealarm as apparently its less resource hungry but just as good.

::edit:: Just gone back to Zonealarm as Comodo was playing havock with file downloads!

Keeping everything up-to-date and running at all times slows down the PC at times, but so far so good.
A few tracking cookies is about all I've had to deal with.
No viruses, no malware, no trojans.

I'm quite happy, just need to get some more RAM at the minute.
Anybody got any spare they could let me have ............ ?

Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.

Another vote here for Site Advisor (free download) which checks sites for whether they contain viruses and whether they send spam. It's an extra weapon alongside the normal anti virus, anti spyware and anti spam programs.

Define best. As with any product you will get those for and against. I would say that there are more satisfied AVG users than Avast users but you can always change if for any reason you don't like one of them. Only run one at a time though.
