student daughter needs cover

my daughter is lodging in a private flat in London whilst undergoing a post grad. She is living with a pensioner who is very particular and doesn't want alterations to the flat. My insurance company have told me I can add her as 'away from home' cover, but only if she has a lock on her door. I am expecting this to be a problem. Her landlady will thing she has something to hide!
The flat is very secure and my daughter really only needs cover for when out and about (phone, laptop etc).

What your Insurers are probably saying is that she's only covered for theft from her room if there are signs of a violent or forcible entry / exit. This is because things tend to go missing in shared accomadation.
If your daughter is happy to run the theft risk herself, then she may be ok with your Insurers. It would be best to check with them about this first though.0 -
Saw a similar issue on another thread recently where this was recommended:

Your daugter is entitled to her privacy. A lock on the door is not an unreasonable request.0
