U-turns on narrow lane - legal?
Comments
-
If you drive a Mitsubushi Evo which has the turning circle of an oil tanker, then you can't obviously do the same manoeuvres, and you will be more of a hazard, but then if you're capable of working that out, you probably won't be doing it.
If you can't do a U turn in an Evo in twice the width of the vehicle you don't know how to drive it.0 -
Seems to me some folks don't know the difference between a U turn and a 3 point turn.
Perhaps I'm reading it wrong. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -

I would like to see you do that.
Even more so as a U turn.
An Evo is about 1.75m wide. So twice that is 3.5 m
But it's over 4m long.
I think you'll have to put up a diagram, as you may be the only person you know who can drive that way.0 -
I'm not clear in my own mind whether it is possible to do a U turn on a narrow country lane (unless driving a Black Taxi..)
Are we talking about a turn in the road or are drivers using the verge as an extention of the metalled road surface.
It's a straightish lane and I suppose the grass verge is around 8 feet wide.........drivers sort of back up to the hedgerow on the opposite side and manoevre in fits and starts to face the way they came.
Do I mean 3 point turn then? Results are the same I suppose."I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0 -

I suspect they were confusing a U-turn and a H-turn...0 -
Because I prefer to use common sense rather than blindly follow whatever is on the sign. Of course I'm not going to do a u turn on a road with cyclists/kids etc running around, hence if you bothered to read my post properly before going in to a keyboard bashing frenzy. I've got this amazing ability to be able to look where I'm going, spot hazards and think for myself - its a gift. Road signs, speed limits etc are targeted at the lowest skilled drivers who are completely unable to think for themselves. If I stuck a no u turn sign down a T junction because I didn't want someone turning round outside my house, no doubt you'd still be sat there scratching your head 2 weeks later.
And if you bothered to read my (carefully-thought-through) post you'd see that I made concessions to the fact that there are people as highly-skilled as you on the road. Unfortunately there is no separate licence category for the highly-skilled so you'll have to put up with following the same rules as us mere mortals.Long-haul Supporters DFW 120

Whilst static put the steering in full right lock. Place in 1st gear, leave the clutch down, press hard on the pedal and when the revs are right up, let out the clutch quickly.0 -

Please.
Name the time and place.

Watch some plank try to spin a 4m car sideways into a 3.5m gap, firmly wedge in place, turn red, get out, see all of MSE fall over laughing.
We would all love to watch 4m of car spin sideways, and wedge into a gap 3.5 m long. Please, please, just name it, we'll be there. It'll even be worth a day off work.
And if you do mange to rip off half a metre of your car, it'll be even funnier.
I can do tomorrow, if you can promise somewhere with walls.0 -
