i just got a call from the housing office, the guy said 'i am phoning you to inform you that i am sending an arrears letter as you have not provided proof that you are on jobseekers' i told him that they are still 'processing and have been for the past 5 weeks' i have also shown them my signking on booklet for the timebeing. can someone please tell me what this arears letter will mean for me? should i be worried about it. i called up jobseekers again andf they said that it is still being processed.....
    what now?

I'm no housing expert but re your arrears notice I would highly urge you not to ignore it but ensure you co-operate as fully as possible i.e. keep them up to date etc on the progress, this is important mostly for the fact that if they press for a CCJ on payment you can show you have not been negligent in non payment.

It's a scary thought but there is always the option of declaring oneself bankrupt, this would need to be discussed fully with a CAB office as there are costs involved. The pro's are you have a new slate and will be discharged after 12 months. Bad news is it remains (despite popular opinion to the contrary) on your financial record for 6 years, this can make obtaining credit difficult and many careers will ask for a disclsoure on such matters which it is a criminal offence to mislead an employer on.

More immediately I would chase you jobseeker application every second of every day, things have a habit of working a lot faster if you do. Keep all parties informed, ensure you keep documentation of ALL correspondance between yourself and any parties, and make sure if you do have telephone conversations, if poignant information is given ask for a copy in writing, ensure your responses are all in writing and what ever you do keep a copy for yourself

    good luck

in terms of finances - my record is clean - i have no debts and no ongoing costs apart gfrom my mobile phone which i can afford as it is a cashbackone. this is the fist time i wil bve in 'arrears' how can they do that when i have given them my signing on book and advised them that its with the jobseekers ppl and being processed exactly like they are 'processing' my homeless claim. cant they just ring jobseekers to confirm from them???

this is becoming more stressfull by the day

i have called jobseekers and they are teling me that someone will call me back regarding my claim - they trold me to that wil call back today sometime.

the worse thing is that i worked for 1 week last week and i am on sick leave and will be claiming jobseekers again in the next few days. i dont want to claim again whilst this is still being processecd as it may delay things even further. the stress i am in is affecting me very badly in terms of healthwise and my ibs is sky rocketing. my wife is worried that im going to lose my top. my doctor tells me not to worry - its not him thats homeless its me.
why is it that when C$$P comes it comes from all corners and from beneath??

i just want to carry on with my life as it was......

When you were put into temporary accommodation, did you claim Housing Benefit at the same time? Presumably you haven't paid any rent, which is why you will be showing as being in arrears.

You need to speak to your Housing Benefit department and chase up with them. If you haven't submitted a Housing Benefit claim yet, you need to do it NOW! Ask them to backdate it to when you moved into temporary accommodation. Once this goes through, and it may take until your JSA is sorted, it should backdate and clear your arrears.

i hope i'm never put into a situation like yours! Hope you manage to get somewhere in the end. I'm still trying to get somewhere with the $25 thief....but I'm sure your situation is much worse than mine lol.
    God bless...
