Decorating artex wall - asbestos?

Hi all,
I have recently moved into a house, and am about to paint over an artex wall. Is this safe to do so? As I was advised by my surveyor before moving in that the wall may contain asbestos. Please help me if you can, thanks

Well, it MAY contain asbestos although they stopped using it in Artex many years ago.
However, either way, simply painting it is perfectly safe.
There's a slight chance it could be a problem if you start attacking it with scrapers or sanders, if you don't do that. no problem.0 -
in most cases the asbestos in artex is quite safe (different types of asbestos apparently).. only risk being if were to serious sand the walls down - and breathe in massive amounts of the powder..
Most just opt for getting walls re-skimmed and painted, which gives a much smarter finish..0 -
Sound advice from the above posters :T
ACM's can be maintained easily by encapsulation like painting over them to "seal in" any acm that may be present. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
We've just bought a new house with artexed ceilings. My Dad has just scraped most of the bobbles off in preperation for the ceiling to be skimmed. Let's hope there wasn't too much asbestos *rolls eyes*0

Depends when the house was built and haw long the artex has been there fa, as to whether it MAY contain acm's or not. Modern houses / artex contain NO acm's at all.
ACM's were banned in the UK late 1999 so up until then materials containing acm's were still being used, anything post 2000 shouldnt have acm's in the material. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -

The house was built in the early 60's and I would hazard a guess that the ceiling hasn't been touched since the 70's at the very earliest.
He's done it now anyway so not much that can be done now0
