i joined hsbc whilst at school, many moons ago and my local hsbc bank opening times are from 11am til 3pm, which is absurd! whats the point of opening at all...thats the reason why i opened a barclays current due to the long hours!
this seems to be a good move...0 -
What about Giro Bank?0

Why anyone would want an FD account is beyond me,there regular 6% savers account might sound good on the outside until you realise its actually useless with diabolical returns.
You have to fund a grand a month for them to basically answer the phone Within a minute,I'm sure people just phone them up everyday so they feel they're getting their money's worth.0 -
It would appear that you don't know how regular savers work, far from being useless it provides market leading returns for this kind of accountBugsyBrowne wrote: »Why anyone would want an FD account is beyond me,there regular 6% savers account might sound good on the outside until you realise its actually useless with diabolical returns.

Similarly, it is not necessary to fund the 1st account with anything at all, pop a pound in their e Saver and you're done
I suggest you get your facts right before you misrepresent what is a very good product0 -

If I now throw £300 a month into first directs 6% saver can you tell me what returns I will get year 1 please?0 -
OK I am a long term FD customer, when I joined banks closed at 3 o'clock and did not open on Saturday internet banking was not even a dream.
FD's telephone banking gave unprecedented convenience, you could call at any time just to check your balance, a £250 overdraught was free and from the beginning the phones were answered quickly by friendly and very well trained staff.
The other banks have caught up and now it is rarely necessary to phone, but in my opinion the service I get remains excellent.
There are offers on current account balances available but I dont think it it worth the hassle of moving all my DDs etc just for a few months of extra interest on a relatively small current ac balance.

I've been with First Direct for around 19 years, since they opened. I also have 2 current accounts and other products with LLoyds TSB Scotland and Smile internet Bank. Have also prior to First Direct banked with Barclays who I found to be abysmal. First Direct have kept me and my husband as customers for 18 years as they are the best. I don't think it is unreasonable to expect a minimum input of 1K a month to get an account with such stellar service and a First Class Reputation. In fact, in the beginning, the salary minimum was higher, to keep out the rabble I presume! That was a good move!0 -

I'm sure FD's customer service is good I agree I'm just waiting for Coldiron to give me a figure on the returns I would get if I launched £300 into first directs 6% saver for a year.0 -
"From next spring HSBC and First Direct personal current account customers will be able to bank at Post Office branches ..."
This is a great move for me! One of my homes is in a small rural village in Scotland. HSBC (who own FD) only have a couple of branches in Scotland, both of them 200 miles away from my rural home. Being able to pop into the Post Office in my nearest town will be a great addition to the already fantastic service and facilities that being a very happy customer of First Direct for 19 years has given me.
Great move! Great for First Direct customers who live in Scotland :T0 -
