Santander - Comet interest free purchases

I purchased a fridge from Comet using there buy now pay nothing for 12 months option which is financed through Santander.

At the end of the period I phoned the Indian call centre and asked to pay the balance in full, I was given a figure and gave them my debit card to make the full payment. About 4 months later a letter dropped through the door saying I owed them a couple of pounds. I phoned up (took a 10 minute call) and was told I had paid in full so please ignore the letter. I then received a letter from Santander confirming I owed nothing and that my account was closed.

Today I got a Notice of default sums dated 14th September with a £12 late payment fee.

On calling Santander and taking another 10 minute call I was told not to worry and I owe nothing.

I'm now rather worried as it appears although I'm being told on the phone I owe nothing by the call centre in India I am being sent default sum notices from PO box 700, Leeds LS99 2BD.

I would be very wary of santander, given my time there when they were GE, such agreements are prone to errors..

Need to check the timing of when the payment was cleared by them, compared to when the BNPL expired.. If it was later then the payment made usually has the habit of paying the account in front for so long; with the added sting of the Interest being charged as well..

The first the customer then knows is the letter chasing up a couple of pounds following 'pre-payment' catching up..

I would check your credit file to check if they have started to trash it!!
