Letter From HSBC...HELP PLEASE!

Hi, I have sent a letter to my former bank HSBC. I had a bank account, credit card and loan with them in the past.I was requesting a credit agreement and details of any charges I have incurred on the accounts.

In the letter it showed my new address which they don't know about because my previous dealings with them were not at this address. I did, however, detail two previous addresses in the letter for which they would know about.

They sent me back a letter and I am a little confused on my next action, as to the jargon used by them.

It says ''Regrettably, we are unable to proceed with your request as the letter received fails to bear correct address details in accordance with the records held by HSBC. Once we received a signed form of authority from you showing the correct address, we will be pleased to consider any request. We note the 'authority' process may use a standard template format, however we can confirm that we will accept a handwritten card number and bank name, as long as the form is signed by you. We must therefore request that you confirm the account information provided and enclose a signed authority in accordance with our records''.

Can anyone tell me in 'simple terms' what it is that I actually have to do???

I suspect if you then went on to supply the information they ask that they will then reject your request as they dont have to supply a copy of the agreements on closed accounts as S77-79 of the consumer credit no longer apply when the account is close/debt repaid.

They are also not required to tell you the charges either. Even if you request under DSAR.

It means that they found the account but the address in the account details isn't one of those you told them about. They want you to tell them that address to help them be more sure that you're really the person who had the account. So send them that address and a signed authority form.
