Checkatrade dissapointment

Out of the few tradesmen findeing websites, I have found chceckatrade the better one. There is no bidding for job unlike others. Surely the tradesmen pay to advertise but then you contact them directly rather than posting a job and tradesmen buying the jobs to quote. BEFORE anyone jumps at the conclusion, no I am not associated with chceckatrade and am not a tradesmen.0

Checkatrade, like all such organisations, are simply parasitic businesses who make their money by preying on tradesmen and customers alike. Most decent tradesmen wouldnt list on there unless they were desperate. Who would want to be pimped out like that?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Out of interest, how is that different from advertising in local newspaper. Not everyone has a recommended list of electricians, plumbers, roofers, builders, carpenter etc. Obviously there are cow boys out there and in the end you ask the for references, see what advise they give, how they respond to emails, see how they talk, get three quotes for any biggish job and then make ur mind up.0 -
But why has the term cowboy become synonymous with tradesmen? It is because the media have made it so. There are people in all professions who will provide poor service ,are dishonest and will rip you off. It isnt something specific to a builder or plumber for example.
Allied to this is the GB publics desire to have everything cheap.
They ring round for quotes for this that and the other and pick the cheapest they can find because clearly, the more expensive ones are ripping you off.
In general, the better tradespeople are not going to haggle. They will quote and if you dont like it,they arent bothered. They will have other work or will not be prepared to reduce.
So what to do...?
Well do the same as you would do if you were looking for a dentist, doctor, lawyer, teacher or whatever.. There is no difference.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
