Renting: Washing machine bust - how long to replace?

Sadly I'm thinking no. Your landlord appears to be acting in a reasonably timly manner but it doesn't appear to be helping that they are dealing with some sort of messup between themselves and Currys. I'm not sure if you were a landlord you could have resolved the issue much quicker if it's under warranty/had to get hold of repair men/had to deal with Currys/ currys delivers wrong item etc etc?
There is a guide to enforcing repairs on the shelter website so you coudl read that.
I believe due to a similar issue with a washing machine and currys our landlord actually send us a cheque to help towards laundrette fees, but that was probably more out of kindness than anything else.
You can ask the landlord nicely but is it worth rocking the boat over? and if they say no your only option is to try and launch a small claim over 25 pounds which would probably be overkill and may not be successful
Sadly I think you will just have to be patient

How much can I save in 2012 challenge

I agree with dancing fairy above. LL appears to be attempting to resolve. The issues/delays are Currys, over which he has no control.
The fact that the LL is doing this rather than a letting agent is a red herring. A tenant's contract is always with the landlord.
However, by all means ask the landlord, or the agent (who will have to ask the LL), for some reasonable compensation. You may be pleasantly surprised.
There again, the LL might conclude you are trouble and start considering what to do when your 12 months is up (or when the break point is reached if there is one).0
