More credit on existing card

Hi all,

I've been turned down for a new credit card.
Can I ask for more credit on my existing card? Would my own credit card company re-look at my credit score before giving more credit?

Depends on how long you have been with them and what your repayment history is like..

But yes, it's more than likely you'll be re-credit checked.
  • I've been with them for about 8 years, I was good until I lost my job then I missed 2 payments, I got a job again and so paying min payment each month.

I'm not sure why Ive been declined twice.

This is why you've been declined. Its highly unlikely you're CC will be open to increasing your limit with recent missed payments.
  • The missed payments were about 6 months ago. Maybe I would be better asking my own bank?

Regular minimum-only payments won't improve your credit rating either.

You can ask who you want, you're highly unlikely to get the answer you want.

Try again in 6 years, not 6 months, as this is how long those 2 missed payment marks will most likely screw your credit file up for.
  • Oh thats a shame. Will have to ask bank of mum and dad for a newer car loan.
