I have been advised by Santander when going into my account that I should downland and install Rapport to secure from hackers. However, as my PC isn't the fastest it slows it right down and is a pain.
Is it still worth having ?

No - a waste of space and resources. Just make sure you have a good internet security/antivirus package installed. If you don't, MS Security Essentials is a good free package.0

I have had Rapport for maybe two years, 18 months perhaps and had no problems whatsoever. It seems to do what it says on the tin.
I was recommended to have it by my building society and I reckoned they knew more than I did about security and had no reason, no hidden agenda, in recommending something that
1. didn't work
and
2. was c-rap.0 -

And your suggestion that your building society "knows more about security than you do" may well be true, but this gives no guarantee that the product is good or useful. There is a logical fallacy called "the argument from authority" which could apply.0 -
You will be aware that many PC manufacturers are paid money to pre-install the products of certain anti-virus manufacturers on the PC which they sell. Certainly the agenda there is not hidden!

1) Sell you any insurance (including PPI and insurance against identity theft)
2) Tell you you savings interest has changed from an eye-watering 0.85% to a sphincter-loosening 0.001%
3) Receive any kick-backs from Rapport4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 tracker again+ Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy0 -
I'm noticing a pattern developing here!
Nationwide recommend using Rapport but it isn't mandatory.
As far as I can see, no mention of it appears in the on-line Banking Terms and Conditions or the On-line Banking Promise.
So they don't trust it enough to make it a mandatory requirement.
