Advice on unsold item

Still new to ebay and advice please

I had quite an expensive item in a listing which was unsold. Someone has emailed me to ask if I would accept a lower offer after auction ended.

I am happy to do this but how would that work. Do I have to relist it again and tell them I have put it on as a BIN or could I just sell the item to him bypassing ebay as that would be my preferred choice with no sellers fees. Would the buyer be happy with that arrangement or would they expect me to relist it on ebay.

Thanks

eBay would expect you to list it on eBay - they did find you the buyer and it would be more ethical if you use what they pay for (advertising, buyer confidence in their brand) to pay them for the service. That's what I would prefer to do myself.

However, you can do it the other way round if you prefer. There is no more risk on the buyer's part because if he marks it as for goods then there is protection for him as well as for yourself.

  • The only risk of putting it up as a BIN is you can't make it solely for them, so someone else might see it and snap it up. Not really an issue for you as the seller since you'd get what you want for it but it would be disappointing to the potential buyer.

To be honest, ethics would not come into it for me if it meant I saved myself handing over 10% to ebay for the fees. Ebay have already taken listing fees and others bits like extras for photos and they'll take that even though they didn't actually sell the item. You'll pay that again to relist on top of the final value fee. If it were me, in the true spirit of money saving, I'd opt to save money! ;)

Basicly the buyer has offered the me the lowest price I would be willing to accept.relisting and Making the transaction with ebays selling fees won't make it financially worthwhile for me. Thats why I wanted to do the transaction not going through ebay to avoid sellers fees
