bt email account hacked into....help!!

Hi, so apparently my email account (BT) has been hacked as a few of my contacts have recieved dodgy emails with links in that i definitely havent sent  Have phoned BT who have just said change your password (which i have) BUT i am now concerned that my whole laptop may have been "compromised".....!!!! Have now realised that my norton security thingy has run out and i havent got the 35quid to update it  IS there any way of finding out whether it is just my email account thats been hacked or whole computer???? Help!!!
Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?

    1. Get rid of norton, ever since Peter Norton gave it up to Symantec its been awful bloatware
    2. Get something like AVG/Avast and malwarebytes
    3. Get Hijackthis and post the log it produces.
  • ummm okay, actually dont understand half of what you have said!!! Eeeeek.....i am NOT techie at ALL!!!

I didn't mean to be condescending in my post by suggesting a Google, apologies if it appeared that way.

norton removal tool, use this after uninstall or ther'll be norton hangover bits on your pc which could conflict with other bits:-

How do you know that ur computer has been hacked?
Its possible its just your BT/Yahoo email address book.

This can happen thru activity on Social Sharing websites ?

The fact that people received an email with your address as sender doesn't necessarily mean that your account got hacked. In fact in the vast majority of cases it isn't.

Everybody can send emails with your email address in the From: field. The same way I just could send a letter and write your postal address at the back of it. You wouldn't think that somebody broke into your house, would you?

But to be on the safe side, you should check your computer for viruses and malware.
