Hi
I'm looking to put down a nice wooden floor in a house we've just bought. Any advice where I can get the best deal? I want real wood not laminate, and I need to cover around 37sqm.
Thanks in advance

Using engineered wood can cut down the cost...it's indistinguishable from solid wood, more stable and easier to lay. Not much to dislike, really.

But a word to the wise....you can buy the most expensive flooring on the market and it will still look cheap if you use beading. Replace the skirting boards or don't bother IMHO.import this0 -

We used UK Flooring Direct, and bought solid wood with a lacquered finish random lengths, which was actually cheaper than engineered wood.
We have fitted 2 rooms and full 10m hallway, and it looks fabulous
(we did however fit new skirting boards throughout too)0 -
We did our hardwood flooring works with Cadillac carpets two years before. Their work was so perfect and our floor looks fresh and new even after these days.
Check out their official website for more details.:)0 -

What is the base you are laying on. This will also influence whether you go for real or engineered wood."I think I spent 72.75% of my life last year in the office. I need a new job!!"0

Being nice to noob time. Stacey it would be useful if you could confirm that yours is a genuine recommend rather than an employee of the company spamming the forum. Joined today and having only two posts only both of which are pushing the same supplier looks a tad suspicious and touting for biz is against forum rules.

When I put down engineered wood in my first house I replaced the skirting - it was a modern (1970) house with ugly, plain mdf skirting so it was a win-win.
However, I've just got engineered wood in the first room of my new house and it's an old Victorian property so I was worried about the impact on the walls of removing the skirting. However, it had existing beading coloured white like the skirting, it has this throughout the house, so we removed just this and put in replacement beading, again painted white, once the flooring was in situ and it looks fab. The existing skirting would need to be high enough for this to work though. The beading is the type that's rounded outward rather than inward which I think makes a difference to the finished look.0 -
I just purchased wood from UK Flooring direct so fingers crossed the wood delivered is as good as the sample they sent0
