Wrong Chq Guarantee No !?!?!?!?

Did the shop swipe your card as well?
In which case they'll have a record of your card number to boot anyway!
And I'm also confused on this point.
If your cheque bounces and isnt paid, you're hoping that you'll only get a charge for a bounced cheque as opposed to another charge for going futher into your unauthorised overdraft and having to pay for the jacket.
So essentially for one more bank charge for bounced cheque you're hoping to get the £99 jacket?
I'm not 'hoping' for anything. I have money going in tomorrow, reducing an OD that was caused by my Bank's mistake. I will still be OD, but in essence, I have just bought a walking jacket with MY money that is going in tomorrow, but will still have reduced an OD not caused by myself.
I was merely asking what is likely to happen with this cheque, as TBH, before the banks c*ck up, & had managed for the last couple of years without an OD completely! I don't know how the system works & if they would bounce & charge.
Please don't judge me, as it's unfair. I asked, in good faith, for an answer to a Q !!!!*Helen*

I dont think the OP is purposely bouncing cheques to claim more in bank charges.
The jist I've got is that because the card number was taken down wrong, the bank cannot guarantee it and therefore the jacket wont be paid for via the cheque that was written and therefore the OP has got a £99 jacket for nothing bar the charge for a bounced cheque.
Which, in my opinion, is actually a very dishonest thing to do, and is acquiring goods through deception. Especially to be hoping that the cheque isnt paid, and therefore having a jacket for a potential bank charge which the OP (I assume)is intending on reclaiming.
How would you feel if someone was buying your car, gave you a cheque for it, took your car (coz you thought they were trustworthy and had no reason to think otherwise) only to find the cheque was bounced?
I for one, would be very very VERY !!!!!! off.Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
My apologies
It was this commentWas only asking Q regarding the cheque, as would be nice possibly to get something for nothing!!! Who wouldn't want that ?!?!?!?!
that lead me to my conclusionWealth is not measured by currency0 -
Please don't get upset OP, but I can see why people are getting upset..let me try to explain how I see what your asking:
You've bought a coat, with a cheque and you know the number to guarantee the cheque is wrong - and you also know that without this guarantee the cheque is likely to bounce, for whatever reason.
Basically it sounds like your hoping it will bounce, and you will just get charged the £30 odd for a bouncing cheque but NOT the £99 for the coat.
If that's what your asking, then the people here have every right to get upset, because this is obtaining goods by deception, ie, you are infact stealing. The shop won't get any money for it if this happens, and it is blantent abuse of the whole ethos behind both this site, and the bank reclaim charges.
I'm sorry OP, but there is no way anyone here would condone such an action. Proud DFW Nerd 135 :cool:Sealed Pot Challenge - 0190 -
Providing that you wrote the cheque in the knowledge that there were funds, or facilities, sufficient for the cheque to be honoured, then you have done nothing wrong.
It is the duty of the shop assistant to write down the correct cheque card number - in fact you are not even allowed to write it yourself.
As previously posted, the 'cheque guarantee' only comes into play if there are insufficient funds, or facility, to meet payment. Even then, the Bank could still refuse to honour the cheque by saying that you issued the cheque in contravention of the conditions of the cheque guarantee card.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. If the cheque does indeed bounce, you will still owe the shop the money for coat.0

Very true, and if the shop were able to prove that you knowingly bounced the cheque, then you would have committed a criminal offence.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. in truth i don't really think that criminality is the issue here but as i understand it the OP has no dispute with the retailer and so owes the retailer the money if the cheque bounces.0

but the parting shot was if the shop could trace her thru the bank - which came across hoping that they couldn't so she'd bag a freebie - hope the shop assistant who made the genuine error won't get a b****cking thru OP keeping her mouth shut0
