£34 default from TMobile - no notice

Hi,
I had an account with TMobile from mid 2007. I always paid my bills by direct debit and was always on time. In around Jan 2011 my phone was stolen and I decided to cancel my contract and get a new deal elsewhere. I called T Mobile to cancel, and understood everything was finalised in terms of payment for the final bill. In Dec 2011 I discovered an outstanding balance to TMobile (by chance, when logging in to my online account to remember old phone number) so I called them and paid this immediately on the phone.
Unfortunately i had moved home around 2-3 months after cancelling the contract and didnt think to tell TMobile as i thought all was finalised. A stupid mistake i now realise!
I just discovered that my Call Credit report shows a formal default. It shows that the debt was satisfied, but only after 4-5 month of default. It was for the grand total of £34.
I am guttered about this and the conseuqences. I didnt receive any notice from TMobile of the outstanding amount. Im not sure though if this is my fault for moving or becasue they use online billing with no email notifications. They had 2-3 months available after me cancelling to write to me before i moved but didnt do so in that time. They also had misspelt my first name on my account so that may have not helped if they did try to track me down. i do of course appreciate that it is not their job to track me down if i move, but the consequences of this default for the sake of £34 seem a bit disproportionate.
Does anyone have advice for me? Am i stuck with this on my record for 5 more years? Should i ask TMobile to provide prove that they notified me of the intention to formally record a default? I am really guttered about this as I now have a terrible rating purely through oversight. I have never missed or been late with any other payment on any credit account. Should I try to put a note on my file and if so, does anyone have any wording they would advise? Will this hamper my changes of getting a mortgage?
thanks!

How do you know the letter didnt go to your old address? After all you said you moved and didnt tell themDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

mobile phone providers are not covered under the same rules as banks are so are not required to send a default notice to the customer.
if i was yourself I would write a letter to tmobile credit referrals and ask them to contact you to discuss it.
chances are they will remove the notice if you attempted to make full payment and it was an over sight.
a similar thing happened to my girlfriend with HSBC they issued a default for £30 when a final bill left her account when she moved out of her flat. they removed the default for her.
keep it nice and carm and you should get results!0 -
