Selling after issues with neighbours...

We have had issues with our next door neighbours that started this time last year. Police were involved, mediation happened and he did receive a harassment warning (against another neighbour but with us thrown in)

I think it has to be declared on the survey?? Will it put people off even though it was personal against us?

Yes you will have to declare it or put yourself in peril of being sued if a problem surfaces later on..

Probably not what you want to hear but yes it will probably have a negative effect on potential purchasers.

By the sounds of it your neighbour has had an argument with other neighbours as well as you and this indicates it could continue to be a problem in the future.

You clearly haven't gone into details and this may be something and nothing ( I hope it is) but investigate how you can declare it in the best possible light with a suitable explanation playing it down but truthfully for as and when purchasers ask you what it was about.

Disputes have to be declared as part of the documents to the solicitor, not the survey. It would put me off, doesn't sound personal if three sets of neighbours were involved.

Yes you will have to declare it. Why not speak to your solicitor about how to word it, so you are honest but it's clear it's a personal thing
  • Thanks all. Its my sisters house that we rent from her and we had the issues.

He has annoyed almost everyone here at some point. Things have calmed down and are loads better.

They will declare it. I will tell them to speak to their solicitor about how to word it.

Thanks all. I just hope they can find a buyer who doesnt care about who they live next door to!!

If its a BTL investment then the buyer may not be as bothered as they won't be living there
  • Thats what I have suggested that they market is as. These houses rent very easily.

If the neighbour have annoyed almost everyone it is not a personal issue! Be very careful making claims like that.
