Changing my Ebay id name

Hi..

I have had my current Id for a while now and the Mrs is on about changing it as she doesn't want friends etc looking at what we buy - (nothing naughty with batteries in case you're wondering! :D ).
We have feedback of about 30 and she is just starting to sell quite a bit now and would like to have a name that reflects what she is selling.
What do peeps see as the advantages/disadvantages of changing your name? How long does it show that you have changed your name for? Can you indicate why you changed your name anywhere and does it put people of buying do you think?

Any advice greatly appreciated...

ta.

    Rule No 1:
Keep buying and selling seperate. Have two seperate accounts, after all, you don't want to be worrying about feedback from buying, affecting your sales. ;)

After Rule 1, there are dozens of rules :p but in a nutshell, as long as its a clean 100% account, I'd make it your selling account and open a new buyers account.

Most folk will accept your buying feedback as a reflection on you, and bid happily, the rest won't even bother to check.

As for an ID change, go for it, I cannot see it impacting sales. :)

recently changed mine and made no difference, did it for the same reasons, I don't think people care if they're buying if off JoePublic or mrcheapstuff as long as they want it!

I changed my name you have a little icon beside your new name for 30 days.During this time you cant change your name again plus everybody can see your old name. After that the icon goes and your reinvented ! I never found a problem with it and I would suggest if you are going to change it then do it before you get a " clientele" and feedbck bulit up. In fact I would say its quite sensible to change your name to reflect your items your selling ( mine should be cattty junk! ) .
I disagree with previous OP rule 1. This is a good idea to have seperate accounts if you are buying things on ebay to sell again but I find having a buying/ selling feedback boosts my feedback rating. People dont notice to much how you have a feedback of say 400 but feel a bit more reasured that you have a high feedback.I have never had an negative feedback from buying, only twice selling !

How often have I seen.... "I don't want to neg the seller as I don't want a neg on my ID which I use for selling to!".... Well..... I don't want it either.

A seperate buying and selling ID means that if as a buyer I end up in a deal that goes sour, I can neg the hell outta them, without a care about retaliatory negs as a buyer impacting my sales.

As a buyer I have had retaliatory negs.

Think long term too, my main selling ID is old enough to start school :p .....

Also on the long term front, you wouldn't want three unjustified strikes as a buyer ending your selling career, would you?

Also, AND THIS IS A BIGGIE ....

    I don't want a seller I have negged ruining my auctions.......... do I? ;)

    etc,

    etc,

    etc,

Buying is one game, Selling is another, and the two don't mix. (IMHO of course :p)

Does not matter what you do on ebay one day you will get a neg , justified or not. Im not scared to neg someone - I would rather be honest. But I dont like to neg someone unfairly and dont aprove of people doing it either. Personally I prefer to get my feedback built up. In my experance its my non paying buyers who I have all the problems with and I have only once needed to neg a seller. Everyone with have their own view. :D

I buy on ebay and am thinking of selling. I was going to use the same id for both but now not so sure. If I had a different id for selling how would that affect my paypal account? At the moment i have an email address just for ebay and paypal which ties in with my username. Can i use 2 id's and 2 email accounts for the same paypal account or would i have to re-register when I have a second id. Not too much of a problem I suppose once it was all up and running. What do you guys do about funding your paypal account? At the moment I buy and have credit card set up for funding paypal. Is this the best way for selling? What about using credit card for buying and bank account for selling, would that work?

On that note, don't you think there's a "saturation point" for positive feedback? Would you really feel a lot more comfortable buying from a 1200+ seller than a 400+ seller? Beyond 100+ feedback I tend not to care, so long as they have 100% and no recent/badly reflecting negatives.

I would prefer to buy from a 200-500+ seller than from a >2000+ seller, as I would expect a more personal level of service from the guy that isn't so busy! :) Obviously that could be a giant misconception on my part, but I've yet to find a seller in the many thousands with a 100% feedback record.

Drifting back on topic, I'm also considering changing userID and registering a domain name to match at the same time - as a sort of placeholder incase I ever decide to set up shop. So the domain along the lines of: buyfromme.co.uk and a matching ebay id of buyfrommecouk. You can then also include a link in your listings to your website. Perhaps you won't use it immediately, but it has a little bit of inbuilt futureproofing for expansion.

I have 2 email addresses on the same paypal account and it says I can have 8 (uk verified)

You must use a different email address to set up a second ebay account but if you wanted to you could tell it to a different paypal account if you wanted to.

I had the problem that I did not pay enough attention to my settings when I set up my second ebay account. A buyer send a paypal payment to an email account i had deleted and so couldn't register with paypal.

Just be careful that everything is set up to go to the right place
