Hi,
My stepsons mum got him a 2nd hand iphone for xmas just gone, he never has any credit so we decided to get him a capped contract sim.
His mum told us it was unlocked to any network, so we went ahead & ordered the sim.
Turned out it was locked to vodafone, they weren't willing to unlock it (only original owner can!!) so we had it jailbroken.
His phone had to be wiped 1st & since then he hasn't been able to install any apps. For example when he tried to install facebook it says update required this app requires ios 4.3.
We were told that his phone cant be updated as the jailbreak will undo itself, we were also told his phone was already running on the newest update.
Hopefully one of you techie people can help!!
Thankyou

Could you not get it wiped and use a vodafone sim?
And maybe try to trace the original owner through stepson's mum.to get it properly unlocked.0 -
We've got him a contract sim with tesco, as they cap the bills, vodafone don't.
His mum got it from cash converters, so don't see how she could trace the original owner.0 -
That's really strange. They shouldn't need the original owner since I've unlocked an iPhone from ebay before. Try calling them again and asking for it to be unlocked. If they say no, buy a PAYG Voda SIM, register it to your name and call them using it to unlock the phone.
Btw there will probably be a £15 fee to get it done.0 -
Oh no don't say that, we paid £20 for it to be jailbroken.
I'll give vodafone another ring tomorrow, hopefully i'll be able to speak to someone who knows what there doing.0 -
The iPhone 3G only supports up to ios 4.2
You can get something called whited00r but that just emulates it, it might fool apps enough into installing though.0 -
my 3 gs is jailbroken with4.2.1 and it works fine on any network i had a lot of problems at first when it was updated to the newest firmware , Springboard used to jam and had to be reset all the time etc do you down load your apps through cydia as it is the main app sorce for jailbroken iphone, Also check the modem firmware is 06.15.00 as this is the one for ipad and works the best on iphone0
