urgent vet visit for pug

hi all

Can anyone please tell me what benefits you are claiming to put my mother in laws pet pug to the rspca vet visit. The dog has had two lots of anti-biotics for a urine infection ( blood in her urine ), but she has noticed there is still some in her urine. She is running around, eating, drinking and fine . Mum in law thinks she needs an x-ray.

Mother in law is on :

disability
housing association property
lives on her own

If mum in law is under the umbrella and ideas how we go about booking the dog in or do she just turn up.

any help would be great as she desperately wants to take her and cannot afford to treat her at the local vets. x-ray along is £110.00

Thanks all

Housing Benefit is one they usually ask for.

Or JSA stamped by the DSS to prove you are receiving the benefit.

Okay, could the dog need a longer dose of antibiotics???? When I had Cleopatra(a cat), she seemed to get urine infections and was give 7 days antibiotics on three occasions. Finally the vet decided a month long course was needed. Cleared up and never happened again.

My dog has just had blood in his urine, it was cystitis, might just need more antibiotics.
  • if you have a local pdsa then they accept a donation rather than charge a fee.
it works on housing benefit and /or council tax i think. rspca only halves the bill from what i know so they may still be costly.
i had xray quoted for a cockateil that amounted to £800:eek: which fair enough is a different species but these tests can all add up xx

  • They certainly won't X-ray just because she thinks they should. If she qualifies for help, it will be tests and treatment on the basis of clinical judgement.

Same as with any charity, they can't be performing expensive tests if there isn't any clinical indications for it.

The requirement is usually housing or council tax benefit. If not, there may be an RSPCA or PDSA hospital or another charity that could help, but still going in and saying she wants him X-rayed isn't going to help.

sorry all been a very hectic day.

she does receive housing benefit. Think your all correct, might just need another dose of anti-biotics. Really really shocked how long it has taken to clear up for the dog.

    will keep you all informed

    hi all

my mother in law was able to go to the pdsa ( she claims housing benefit ). They where really good. Wasn,t there long either.

Told them the full story, they are gonna scan the dog on friday but going by what my in law stated the vet thinks she has a womb infection. Apparantely very common 2 months after being on heat. Also just looked up on the internet for her and it states that it is highly recommended to get the dog spayed. She was looking into this anyway. Oh the pug is still bleeding and wetting a lot.

In law made a donation and there expertise and patience was brilliant. My inlaw said they are better than the avergage vet.

Will again keep you posted when she gets back on friday.

    okay, update

pug went back to last thuesday and on penscilin, blood is not as much. sleeping a lot of aswell. She has "Stones" inside her and needs an operation on tuesday. So she is fit and well other than that. that gave my mother in law documents with the cost of the operation that other vets chARGE. iT IS £350.00. As the dog will be treated there and my mother in law got no additional funds what would you say she should put in as a donation.
the 3 visits that she has atteneded to she has put in £10.00

Any advice would be great as she goes for the op this week

    thanks guys

As much as she can afford up to a maximum of £350, that is the whole point of the donation system. If money is tight she might set up a monthly direct debit for whatever she can manage, over a few years that will really add up and help them treat another dog.

Maybe she could have a coffee morning with all her friends, each contribute a small amount to go towards the fundraising? Or do a car boot sale of any stuff she has lying around?
