Like/ share comps on Face Book - This is my opinion

I don't object to the pic shares (despite facebook terms) I just object to the 'chance' of spotting the winning message

The above quote is exactly how i feel.

In April of this year I entered a FB comp for a 3 day holiday in a luxury apt in St Ives Cornwall. I put a very flattery comment about Cornwall in the comments

2/3 weeks later one of my FB friends messaged me to say I had won and to contact the page my details. I hadn't had an email or notification letting me know.

This was the message from - https://www.facebook.com/TheSailLofts scroll down to 2nd April 2012

Thank you to everyone who has entered our competition... We now have a winner! Congratulations Jill Mann, do get in touch to arrange your spa break in St Ives!

Now what would have happened to that prize - which we are taking at the end of September?

I have made a decision today after reading this thread - i am only going to enter FB comps with an app.

    Congratulations Jill! ^_^

I do find i'm getting more and more dubious about facebook like/share comps, i reckon a minority of them don't really have a prize to give and are just wanting the huge amounts of publicity from it. I too now only go for the apps.

I enter them if i like the prize, my friends can unfriend me if they dont like my spam. I sometimes bookmark and check. Ive never won from one though.
    Wishing you all good luck!

  • I generally have the same view. If it has an app I will enter it. If it doesn't I very rarely will. If I do share a comp, i will tend to make it visible only to my 'MSE' list so I have no idea whether it would even count anyway.

  • I dislike like and share comps. I enter them only when it's something I'd really like (I entered one yesterday for a girls panda t-shirt because my eldest DD loves pandas). I usually just skip the share ones and stick to app ones.

May you all have lots of luck, Emma xx

I have won quite a few but am a member of the fb group called winners circle. Other members do tag me if I win but I also search this page for my name just in case. I agree with the spamming though and have lost a few fb friends...ones I am not really bothered about though thankfully! :)
Thanks to all those fab compers who post:j:T
  • I won on a like & share and emailed the company & zilch response so guess they nver had a prize to give away - I'm another one going for apps only & think it may be an idea to send a message to these companies pointing out that these are against facebook rules

An outstanding idea - I didn't know a group like this existed so I've just requested to join them, thank you very much for posting!

I wasn't aware of what went on with the like/share comps. It doesn't take much to enter the comp, but when you think that the comp may not exist, or that they don't bother to contact you and just announce and congratulate you rather than tag your name, it makes you think your energy can be best used elsewhere.

  • Why only with an App?
Do they tend to contact people directly?

If I see a winner I attempt to tag them if they're in my friends list. But I'm worried I'm going to miss out on something because the company doesn't always contact the winners :/
 Thank you to everyone!

Yes, they normally ask for an email address. My biggest prizes have been won on Facebook through app comps. Never won a like & share so don't bother - especially after the Cadburys Creme egg comp - over 2000 shares for 2 eggs :/ I did offer everyone on that thread if they so desperately wanted 2 creme eggs they were on sale in my local paper shop at 2 for £1 :rotfl:
    Thanks to all posters :A
