Benefits if made redundant

I work 16 hours and bring home about £600 pm after paying £150 childcare costs. My husband is self employed and for the past 2 years has earnt about £13k after taxes.

We have a 5 and 2 year old. We receive £125 a week CTC. I am facing possible redundancy and really need to find out if we would be entitled to claim anything else and would we still be able to claim CTC with just my husband working and earning £13k?

Any advise very much appreciated.

Comments

  • As long as your husband is working at least 24 hours a week the CTC will remain, you may also qualify for WTC so worth checking.

If you have paid NI contributions in the last 2 tax years then you should be able to claim Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) assuming you will be looking for further work.

With the drop in income you may qualify for housing and/or council tax benefit.
  • With only 1 working you can't claim any childcare as the partner at home is expected to look after the child(ren).
