Hi guys, I have went back to work after being out of work for twelve months following a breakdown. I returned to work on thursday there and I need to know the best way to go about the following:
1) letting the DWP know that I am no longer wishing to claim ESA, do i let my medical certificate expire in a fortnight's time and have the claim close by default?
2) Tax credits, I used to get working tax credits when I lived with my partner and the kids, however following the breakup she has the kids and gets child tax credits. Would i be entitled to working tax credits
I am in receipt of DLA lower care component, I am unsure if this entitles me to disability tax credits, as the website for the tax credits is nowhere near clear enough for me to gain a simple understanding of what I need to do
Any help appreciated
Thanks

Congrats on the job....
1) You have a duty to notify the DWP and close your ESA claim, they will need to know the start date of your job so that they will pay you up to that date only.
2) If you are over 25 and are working more than 30 hours a week then you can claim WTC
3) If I recall correctly it needs to be MRC to qualify for the disability element on this basis. HOWEVER if you have been getting ESA for at least 28 weeks this will do the trick.
You will also need to have a disability that puts you at a disadvantage of getting a job... I will find the relevant info on the HMRC site for you.
Hope this helps

thanks, muchos gracias. It has been hard to get back in to the workplace, never known competition like it and I really felt so low being out of work, never been out of work for anything more than a few weeks before and a year was too much for me to cope with, its not just the money, dont get me wrong, it helps! but it was the fact that being at work brings a certain degree of pride and respect that nothing else offers0
