Debit Cards

I've just had my new debit card through the post as my old one had expired.

Obviously this new card has a different card number and i just wondered if i had to go on Amazon, Tesco Groceries etc etc etc and update my details with the new card number, as obviously the money is coming out of the same account?

thanks

Your online 'wallet' for each of the places you use the old card will have a record of the expiry day of the card so the next time you buy something, it should highlight this fact.
Alternately you could go online to each of the places that you use the card and do an update of your details to save the hassle when you are actually buying something.

Same account or not, the card details have changed.

Indeed, the only time the details won't need to be changed if its a reoccuring transaction as the bank will normally inform them of new card number (I.e. Gym membership)

Banks don't inform these companies. It is the visa/mastercard systems that do this.

Replacement credit/debit cards re-issued on expiry do not normally have a different number .... just a different expiry date. They only have a different number when reported lost/stolen etc.

Yes, if you have a new number it will be necessary to update your details.
  • I think 50% of posters on here will say that you do indeed new to provide new card numbers to retailers and 50% will say no.

I will say that 50% of retailers might refuse your next order if you don't and 50% will continue to use the existing details!

There is no rigid rules here about this - play it by ear.
