Nervous Ebay Seller

Hi Folks -I have recently returned to selling on ebay - nothing serious, just getting rid of some clothes and bits.
One of my items had a question almost immediately about whether I would post out of the UK. I replied and said that I would not, as per the listing, post outside of the UK, but if the bidder had a UK based friend that could bid on her behalf, I could send it to their registered address.
I heard nothing more until just now when the auction ended - this person has won it, and then requested the total, with a postage adjustment to send it out of the UK - then straight away has messaged me to say "sorry, just realised you won't send it out of the UK, could you make an exception this once"
I don't want to - she has already asked, I've said no. Then she's won the auction anyway and still wants me to send it out of the UK.
I've replied to say no, as per my earlier message - and suggested that she cancel her bids and I'll offer it to the next highest bidder.

Without getting into a discussion about posting outside of the UK - is there anything else I can do/offer her? I don't want to take the hit, which is why I've said for her to cancel her bids.

I knew there was a reason I gave up ebay before - it turns me grey when things like this happen!!!
Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??

just tell them you will get a quote for postage and add it to the price if not re list it
  • i would go ahead and send it abroad depending on the country. But because you don't want to I would suggest you contact them and mutually agree to end the transaction to get fees back. I wouldn't send to an address different to what is on there paypal account because sellers are advised against this.

so there are only 2 options in my opinion: send it or end transaction. Maybe someone else can suggest something else. If you decide to send it then tell them you will only send it with the international signed for option, so that they can't say they never received it. I have sold over 200 items abroad and never had a problem except with one item going missing and RM compensated me for that. I do know not everyone is fortunate with overseas selling. But because it's clothes it should be ok. Can i ask what country they live in.

About 10% of my sales are clothes and even though i sell most to UK buyers i have had some buyers from australia and germany for clothes.

Thanks Rxbren and hiccup123 - I think I'm more annoyed that they've asked if I'll send it overseas and I said no, and then they still want me to - I know that's irrational, but it's my perogative.

When I used to sell regularly on ebay, I had lots of overseas items go missing - they were never anything of value, but it still made me wary of sending overseas.

I did say that if she wanted the item sent to a UK address, it would need to match an address on paypal - I remember that much.

So, could she now cancel her bids and I can just agree to that? and then offer the item to the next highest bidder?

Thanks for your help on this sunny afternoon- much appreciated to have fast responses.

  • i'm not sure. I know you can cancel bids whist auction is running...don't know about after it has ended. I do know that if you end the transaction you can go to your sold items and there should be an option to make a second chance offer. offer can go to next highest bidder. you can add a message to the offer saying original buyer was abroad and you don't post overseas.

you will get fees back for the original sale and will get charged fees for the second chance offer if buyer accepts the offer.
    HTH :)

I will wait and see how she responds -she had a UK address on the email notification to say she'd won- so hopefully I can just send to that and all will be well with the world...!

You forgot that the original transaction still needs to be cancelled, it is not automatically cancelled if seller does a SCO. If you don't get the first transaction cancelled, either with an NPB or a mutual and sell to the under bidder you get to pay 2 lots of fees and both buyers can still leave feedback.

OP, have you set your seller preferences in all the correct places to exclude foreign bidders, unless you do that this can keep happening.

It is, but it can only be ended via a mutual which needs to buyers formal agreement (or else it times to within 7 days) or via an NPB.

Thanks for the additional info - I hope to avoid all the aggro and just send to the UK listed address on her ebay account...!
I have got settings to avoid non UK bidders - but because she has got a UK address as well, it seems to have allowed her to bid?

I won't be offering the item to the next highest bidder until the item is officially cancelled - but what I'd hoped for was that if it is to happen, it would be her instigating it, rather than me, as it's not my fault.

Buyer cannot instigate a cancellation, only the seller can.
