Kinship/Fostering allowance and Income Support.

Afternoon,
I currently claim income support and several months ago also took over the care of my grandson. I have started the legal proccedings for a Special Guardianship Order that was recommended and is being supported by social services.
I have been notified that an allowance as a temporary foster carer is due (but has not started) and I need to know if it will affect my Income Support or housing benefit. SS cannot help as they don't know. I have no idea how much of an allowance is likely to be paid.
If anyone has any idea, it would be appreciated.

The basic kinship care and basic fostering allowance for the care of a child is not counted wrt your Income Support. However the child's presense in the home is not taken into account wrt any housing benefit you receive. So, you won't get an extra room rate because you need a bedroom for them."Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them." Dalai Lama0

This is info on how this will change and affect you once the Special Guardianship Order is granted."Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them." Dalai Lama0
