what size boiler needed

Will soon be needing a new boiler for my house but i am unsure what size to go for,the house is a 4 bed detached with cavity wall insulation, insulated loft, gas central heating and a en-suite shower and seperate bathroom running off a potterton prima 30b boiler and a mk2 boilermate.
British gas tell me the boiler output is insufficent for that size house, but the
boilermate booklet says your can use a smaller than usual boiler because of its efficiency.but we do find the heating not very effective and if the heating is on there is not much hot water for a bath.
so a new boiler with a higher output sounds a good idea,
BUT HOW MUCH OUTPUT? HELP
thanks in advance

Visit boiler manufacturer's websites such as Worcester, Potterton etc. They have a "find your boiler" page that specifies a boiler for your own house size and water usage. The output will be mentioned. You can also call their helpline to discuss with an "engineer".

A boilermate thermal storage averages out the heating load so yes you can get away with a smaller boiler making the system more efficient. A good way to find the right sized boiler for use with a thermal store is using one of the 'whole house boiler sizing tools', eg

    http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/housingbuildings/calculators/boilersizing/

Sizing is less of a issue with most new boilers as they all have a high capacity and can limit there output to suit the heating demand.

The boiler size required is dependent on many factors, i.e the size of rooms and the heat required the amount of water storage and the recovery time required,
If it is a combi, what requirements are needed, The best advise is to speak in person to one or two people who are recommended by word of mouth, sometimes too many people give advise honestly but not neccesserally correctly:)
